Home Accents - Poufs
SEATING AND STYLE TO SPARE WITH POUFS
When you think of adding accessories to your decor, the usual figurines, boxes or candlesticks might come to mind. But one accent that looks charming and doubles as furniture is the pouf. Sometimes called pouf ottomans, poufs are oversized pillows that sit on the floor and can double as a footstool or a seat. If you don’t have a pouf in your home, it might be time for one or two.
VERSATILITY
Pouf ottomans make a great choice to add on either side of a cocktail table for board games or even as seating for an impromptu spot to eat dinner. You’ll get the feel of low seating without having to go all the way to the floor. As a spot to rest your feet, poufs are easy to tuck under tables and pull out when you want to put your feet up or use in place of the standard square ottoman. Better still, poufs make a great spot for feet without taking up a large amount of space like upholstered ottomans with legs usually do.
POUF PAIR
Placed under a sofa console, poufs make quick seating for guests at a party or for kids to pile in to watch movies or TV. But they can do much more than just be a spot for your feet or as impromptu seating.
Adding a tray on top, a pouf can become a quick table. This makes it highly prized in small spaces. Their versatility of going from unique accessory, to footstool, seat and table makes poufs almost indispensable. And for homes with little ones, poufs will protect them from bumps and bruises that often come from the hard edges of cocktail tables.
ROUND UP
It’s that soft, round shape that makes poufs so appealing. These squishy orbs add a soft texture to a room of hard furniture and stiff lines. Try adding a pair of poufs outdoors for extra patio panache. If space is at a premium, use poufs in place of chairs.
In the bedroom, a pouf makes a quick spot to put on shoes or fills an empty corner with softness. You can also line up poufs at the end of the bed to take the place of a standard bench.
In main living areas, poufs can be on standby if unexpected guests drop by and you need extra seating. With their round shape, poufs never get in the way and can be next to a table or piece of furniture without hindering the flow of the room. It’s their round shape, too, that’s so eye catching.
Look for poufs in fabric for a soft look. Or try leather or wicker, which stand the test of time. If you really want to impress people, go for a textural extreme with a faux fur pouf that will delight everyone who touches it.
