Take Off the Bandage!

Take Off the Bandage!
What do transparent tape, “sticky” notes and adhesive bandages have in common? Each has a different function, is made of a different material, and serves its own purpose. Oh sure, you can say they’re all necessary supplies – and you’d be right – but look a little deeper for their common purpose.
Transparent tape holds wrapping on gifts–for a short period of time; sticky notes are placed onto documents as a reminder for a signature or other action, only to be tossed soon after; adhesive bandages are applied to cover a fresh wound for no more than a day or so.
The common denominator here is that they are all just a temporary fix–similar to how we handle the hard stuff in life–a momentary solution to a temporary need. We resort to the latest child “expert’s” advice or trending self-help guru’s ideas to make us feel better, but it solves nothing in the end.
No matter the problem, we need to stop temporarily covering them up. Instead, we should look for a more permanent solution such as learning from past experience or practicing excellence, or simply talking things out. We don’t permanently keep bandages on wounds for a reason; otherwise, they won’t heal!
Our fast-paced society seems to demand quick solutions, and we need a constant supply of tape, sticky notes, or bandages. By taking more time to look ahead, instead of the right-now, it is possible to eliminate many of the situations that require those one-minute fixes. Search for, learn, and practice a more permanent solution to life’s problems.
