Stop Building Castles In the Air

Stop Building Castles In the Air
What are you daydreaming about? Writing a novel? Starting a non-profit to benefit youth in your community? Want to rise to the top 1% of your profession? No matter what the dream is, you need to start with the basics.
Begin building the foundation that will support the eventual structure of your dream. Read and study how others have achieved similar dreams. Countless books, workshops, and websites are available to learn everything you can before you draw up the blueprints. Whatever you’re researching, don’t forget to find out how former dreamers blended work and family, which is a most important factor in true success.
In most cases, you will find that the models you are learning from have also made hard choices. They have first adopted certain principles upon which their decisions are made. Their actions are congruent with those principles. Their “word is their bond.” Their foundational character sets the tone for the structure of their dreams.
Understand that your final success does not occur in one fell swoop. Those you learn from will tell you the same thing–building your dream castle from the ground up will take a lot of work; with the foundation in place, you must build. Create plans, then implement strategies to achieve those plans. Working towards something that you’re passionate about will be worth it once your dream becomes a reality.
As Thoreau once said, it’s fine to build castles in the air, but you must begin with a solid foundation.
